Kung Fu, originally in the arcades as Kung Fu Master, was released by Nintendo in 1985 as one of the original Nintendo Nes launch games. Often credited with being the original beat’em up, Kung Fu puts you in the shoes of Thomas, set on rescuing his girlfriend Sylvia from the nefarious Mr. X and his gang of ruthless ninjas!
The game takes place across five different floors of the gang’s hideout, each one defended by hordes of minions, and a unique boss at the end of each stage. All the floors feature Grippers who mindlessly charge you and hold you until shaken off, and Knife Throwers, which are pretty self explanatory.
After floor one, midget ninjas also join the assault. Floor two introduces falling baskets, which can release snakes, projectiles, and fire breathing dragons. Floor four is apparently inside a beehive, and the player is assaulted by bees for almost the entire level.. Ouch!. Finishing a stage with extra time and life's in hand, results in higher scores, which is basically where the play-again factor of this game comes in. The game is extremely short if beaten straight through, so high score seeking is really the only thing that will keep you going after you have mastered each floor. The game including all 5 floors can be beaten within 10 minutes if you are a competent gamer, although it is a very challenging game to master, and the timing of some of the enemies can be tricky! Once beaten the game then revert back to stage one.. Its ground-hog day!. Gameplay is straightforward albeit simple. You kick and punch your way through waves of enemies. Nice and simple here.. Occasionally you need to jump or duck. With the exception of some miss-timing issues, there is little to complain about here. And the Verdict is...
Definitely worth checking out. If you are a high score fanatic, it can keep you entertained for awhile, but some might get bored easily with it, as its short and quite repetative. |
