Ikari Warriors is a vertically scrolling, shoot 'em up arcade game developed by SNK, and published
by Tradewest in 1986. The game starts and you take the role of commando-like warriors named Ralf and Clark, who must try to reach the village of Ikari, hardly any back-story is given, you are simply shown an image of a crashed helicopter in the jungle with the two warriors escaping from the blast!. Enemy units attempting to thwart you along the way include tanks, enemy soldiers and helicopters. A number of power-ups throughout each stage are present to help you achieve your goal.
The game up's the realism by limiting the number of bullets and grenades that you can carry. You start out with 99 bullets and 50 grenades. Ammunition can be replenished by blowing up turrets found on the battlefield. The game also features a tank and a helicopter that you can opt to enter to mow down the Communists, which s a nice touch!. SNK really thought of everything with Ikari Warriors. The game also showcases its focus on reality based game-play as the ammunition and fuel are both limited in the vehicles as well as hand-. And the Verdict is...
Overall this game is a great example of an important military themed “shoot ’em up” game from the 1980s. Ikari Warriors can be enjoyed by anyone who fancies a good old blasting time!. It's up there with the best scolling-shooter games available for the NES. Great game! |
