Batman, is a platform game developed by Sunsoft that is loosely based on the 1989 film of the same name. It has five levels culminating in a showdown with the Joker at the end in the bell tower of Gotham Cathedral.
Sunsoft followed up the release of Batman with Batman: Return of the Joker. The game has a feature that was unusual to side-scrolling platform games at the time, largely to the NES itself. Unlike many other titles Batman has the ability to wall jump, which is reminiscent of Ryu Hayabusa's wall scaling in Ninja Gaiden. Also another great feature of the game, again unlike many similar titles is that Batman is able to use three projectile weapons: the batarang, dirk, and bat speargun, which are powered by pellet cartridges. A vast array of DC comics villains appear as enemies in the game including Deadshot, KGBeast, Maxie Zeus, Heat Wave, Shakedown, and Nightslayer. The bosses in the game are Killer Moth, a device known as the Machine Intelligence System, the Electrocutioner, a machine known as the Dual-Container Alarm, Firebug, and finally the end boss The Joker.
And the Verdict is...
Overall this is a great game, a classic side-scroller with loads of extras to keep you playing. The game itself is easy to play, but can be hard to master with different weapon combos and various villains to bring to justice!. If Super Heros and side-scrolers are your thing then this is defiantly for you, if not, you'll probably still love this game. Gotta be worth a try. |
